Dicta is built on a foundation of privacy by design. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Your voice recordings and transcriptions stay on your device.

How the App Works

All audio processing happens on your Mac using the Whisper speech recognition model:

Permissions Required

Microphone Access

Required to capture your voice for transcription. Audio is processed entirely on your device.

Accessibility Access

Required to insert dictated text into other applications (Notes, Mail, browsers, etc.). This permission allows Dicta to type text into the currently focused application.

These permissions are requested on first launch and can be revoked at any time in System Settings.

Third-Party Services

No third-party services are used. All processing happens on your device.

Data Storage

Dicta stores the following data locally on your device only:

All data is stored locally using standard macOS APIs and is never transmitted to remote servers.

Children's Privacy

Dicta does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app is designed for general productivity use and does not target children specifically.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date.

Your Rights

Since we don't collect any personal data, there is no data to access, modify, or delete. You maintain complete control over your voice recordings and transcriptions.

To completely remove all app data:

  1. Quit Dicta
  2. Delete the app from Applications
  3. Remove preferences: ~/Library/Preferences/com.edendigital.Dicta.plist
